You used to be really good at this…

Reinvention and transition aren’t anything new, you just forgot how to do it.

Hello friend, I’ve missed you.

Unlocking human potential has become front and center for me because I noticed many of my friends, some in their late 20s to those well into their 50s and 60s, reaching moments where they question what they're actually doing with their lives.

They use phrases like feeling stuck, burned out, being unsure, wandering, and maybe even lost entirely.

Then they ask questions like, is this a mid-life crisis, a reinvention, a transition, a pivot, or something else?

This doesn’t just happen once. It happens over and over again.

Midjourney: Reinvention cycle

I want to let you in on a little secret…

This wasn’t a problem for you when you were a kid, and it’s not actually a problem; it’s a natural cycle of being human.

As kids, we reinvented ourselves and transitioned through our identities all the time, probably dozens of times in a given day.

I would transition between being a Power Ranger, a BMX star, a hockey player, an engineer, and a scientist in moments, depending on what I wanted to do. All those things were Adam, and there were many different versions that I could tap into based on what I wanted to do or who I wanted to be.

It was all based on one simple question…who do I want to be?

One question, and then boom! Action. It just happened.

I didn’t have to think, and I definitely wasn't afraid of what people would think if I transitioned into Paleontologist Adam or Elvis Adam. I just did it.

Then we get older.

As we grow up, we become more aware of these identity transitions and reinventions. We learn to pay more attention to how and who we’re being.

Sometimes, they’re trivial, like switching between academics and playing sports. Other times, they’re more dramatic, like being a new persona based on which lunch table you want to sit at. This starts to happen because we have experiences that make us more aware, and in most cases, the negative ones have the biggest impact.

These layers of thoughts and beliefs are formed from our experiences and have a massive impact on our identity and actions as we grow up. Eventually, they’re so subconscious you don’t even notice.

Some of the thoughts and beliefs that have shaped my life are ones like you're not good enough, you need to be liked, you don’t belong, and you’re not worthy.

We start to think about what people might think, how we might be perceived, or what might happen based on something that’s happened in the past (I plan to do a deeper dive on trauma this year, stay tuned).

Eventually, you reach a point where you've lived most of your life according to how you think everybody else, society included, wants you to live.

Midjourney: trapped by the weight of thoughts and beliefs

And you feel stuck…

This stuck feeling is the culmination of all the times you haven’t lived in alignment with how you want to be. It’s the feeling of trapped potential. It’s the feeling of dampened self-expression. It’s the feeling of not having enough of what you really care about.

This is where tapping into your little kid self comes in. Little Adam knows what to do, and he’d just create a new Adam!

Unlocking your potential and reinventing yourself feels scary because you forgot how to do it, and it feels like so much might be at stake.

But remember, you’re a pro at this reinvention thing. You just forgot.

I want you to know this and take it to heart: you are the solution to your problem of being stuck.

No one else can unstick you but you.

All it takes is a decision to move towards what you want and to let go of what isn’t serving you.

The world needs you at full power, and you need you at full power.

In the coming editions, I’ll share some of my favorite techniques and my own stories for letting go of old thoughts and beliefs and creating the next version of you, including insights from my weekend reset.

One of the things that came to me this weekend is how passionate I am about helping people get unstuck so they can unleash their potential (and define what that means).

An invitation…

If you’re feeling stuck, burned out, unsure, and maybe even lost entirely, I want to help.

Hit reply and type, Yes. No strings attached.

You’re the best,

Adam
